Hurricane Harvey might cause you to pay a bit more at the pump here in Sudbury. Harvey has been battering Texas since late last week. Before the hurricane even touched ground there were rumours it might cause gas prices to jump if refineries in Texas are forced to stop operations. This morning the LARGEST OIL REFINERY IN THE US announced it was closing until flood waters went down.
In total 12 Oil Refineries have closed due to the storm as of Wednesday afternoon, accounting for over 15% of the United States total oil refinery production. Experts say Montreal has already seen a spike in gas prices, here in Ontario it is likely gas will jump .10¢ a litre, maybe even .15¢.
