If you’ve been outside in the last 24 hours you may have noticed, our beautiful city has a distinct campfire whiff to it lately. Here in Greater Sudbury you are not in any danger, however there are many active fires in the area that are contributing to local smoke as well as causing significant issues in the Temagami and Lady Evelyn-Smooth Water Provincial Park areas. Above is a breakdown of the current and new fires that the MNRF is aware of.
The MNRF also wants to let everyone know they have restricted public access to Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park and an area of Temagami where there are public safety hazards as a result of increased fire activity. Within the area, no Crown land camping, no day trips, no hiking, no ATVs and no access to private or commercial camps or cottages are permitted. Permits are required to travel through this area. We will keep you updated as things change.
