Well, maybe. Italian scientists discovered an area of ice on Mars that had a very bright reflection. They believe that the only possible reason for this reflection is water beneath the ice. It’s not 100% proven – we don’t have someone on Mars we can send over to check it out – but, it seems to be the most likely scenario.
Water on Mars could mean that there’s life. “On Earth, anywhere we find water, we find life,” said Tanya Harrison, a planetary scientist and director of research for Arizona State University’s Space Technology and Science Initiative. This “life” could be incredibly small, though. Remember, life on Earth started with micro-organisms.
Evidence also suggests that billions of years ago, Mars was a water-covered planet like Earth. It had a shallow ocean covering half the planet, however the planet lost its magnetic field and was stripped of its atmosphere and water.
