This fire ban started a marital debate. Today, we got an e-mail from Tammy. Her and her husband use a wood-burning stove for their sauna. Tammy said that they could use their sauna during the fire ban and her husband said that they could not. Here’s the e-mail:
We called the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and got an answer.
Yes, you CAN use your sauna, but it must meet certain criteria:
- It must be 5m from any forest area
- 2m from any inflammable material
- It must be a wood sauna
- Must be within 100m of a permanent structure used as a dwelling
- And it needs to have a spark arresting device on top of the chimney
If you meet this criteria, happy sauna-ing!!
