We’ve all heard the saying, but does anyone really know where it comes from? What’s the big deal with wearing white after Labour Day?
Word is this fashion rule comes from a bunch of snobs in the late 1800s. They were super rich and part of the “elite crew” but, when more people started becoming millionaires, they didn’t like it. So, in order to distinguish between the elite old money families and the new money millionaires, they made a bunch of fashion rules that only the OG crew knew about. That way they’d know who to associate with at all of their high class events.
One of those fashion rules happened to be the no white after Labour Day rule. Is it just me, or does this remind you of Mean Girls?
