A lady in British Columbia, Christina, filed a human rights complaint after her employer told her that she must wear a bra to work. After Christina declined, they changed their dress code requiring women to wear a bra or undershirt underneath their uniform.
According to law, employers can only impose a gender specific dress code for safety reasons. However, this was not a “safety reason”. Christina works at a golf club and her employer informed her that it’s for her own protection as “[He knows] what happens in golf club’s when alcohol’s involved.”
