The Robichaud’s on the outside appear to be your young typical family- mom Rachel age 34, Dad Erik age 38, daughter Abby 6 years old and son Dominic 3 years old. They have lived in the Greater Sudbury area their whole lives and now call the Valley their home. Except Erik suffers from Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis- a life altering liver disease for which there is no cure or medication to control it. He was diagnosed when he was still in college. He was doing well until this past year when things took a dramatic turn for the worse. He has been gradually deteriorating and is now in need of a living liver donor.
In situations similar to Erik’s they look to close family member to be a match but they are not.
They are looking to YOU to see about a living liver donor to help save Erik’s life. The doctors have been able to do minor things to prolong his liver but it only provides short term answers and they are close to running out of time. They could use a cadaver liver but to be matched for that may take too much time- time that he may not have.
Erik needs the liver now while he is still healthy enough for the surgery. He wants to live to see his kids grow and live the life that he and his family deserves. A life that many of us take for granted. Despite all his health problems, he has maintained a positive attitude, been the all-around great guy that he is. He and his wife have done so much for others that its now their time to have something done for them. He needs a life saver- a living liver donor. They know they are asking something that is incredibly scary and a huge ask to give a complete stranger 50% of your liver but the liver is something that will regenerate on its own within 1- 2 weeks.
A few things to know about becoming a donor for Erik:
– Have either blood type B or O
– Be similar height/body size- 5’7
– Be in good health
