There is a petition, to make the Northwest Angle in Minnesota, a part of Manitoba. if you take a look at this place on Google Maps it makes ZERO sense why this would have been considered a part of the United States in the first place, and now someone legitimately wants to make that change happen. The Northwest Angle is a part of Minnesota, but as you can see, to the North, East and South it is surrounded by water. So it does not ever directly connect to the United States by land, it does however, connect with Manitoba.
There are around 100 people who live in the Northwest Angle and for those people, the only way to actually get to the United States by vehicle… would be to drive an hour through Manitoba. Imagine someone had a medical emergency, they would either need to be airlifted out, OR, drive through an hour of Manitoba’s free health care, and cross the border twice, just to get to an American hospital. There is also a matter of fishing, tourists from the states travel to Northwest Angle to fish however, legally speaking they would not be able to drive home with those fish, as they would need to cross the Canadian border first. Which brings us to this petition, to make Northwest Angle a part of Canada.
